William Lee "Bill" Cartmill

William Lee “Bill” Cartmill, 63 of Magnolia, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 as a result of an ATV accident. Born in Horse Cave, KY he was the son of the late Sam and Frances Goad Cartmill. Bill was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Bill was Deputy Sheriff of Hart County, Kentucky from October of 1975 under Sheriff Donnie Cobb. In August of 1976, Bill became the youngest Sheriff appointed in the state of Kentucky to fill the late Sheriff Donnie Cobb’s term. Cartmill was then elected Sheriff of Hart County in 1978 and served until 1982. In addition, Bill Cartmill was elected as Hart County Jailer in November of 1983 and continued in that office until January of 2003. In addition to his service to the community, Bill was a life long farmer, hunter, and fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sandra Jo Cartmill of Magnolia; a son, Chris Cartmill of Bonnieville; a daughter, Samantha Cartmill Smith (Shane) of Smiths Grove; five grandchildren Kayleigh and Karlie Smith and Madison, Hunter, and Carys Cartmill. Other survivors include three brothers, Paul David Cartmill (Vivian) of Bowling Green, Mike Cartmill (Jean) of Stanford, and Charles Cartmill (Sharon) of Summer Shade and a sister, Carolyn Cartmill Myatt (Bob) of St. Pete Beach, Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2016 and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 8, 2016 at Brooks Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Talley and Bro. Kelvin Copas officiating. Interment will be at Horse Cave Cemetery, Horse Cave, KY.
