Stokes A. Baird, IV, died peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022. He was born on May 12, 1943, and lived his entire life in Munfordville, Kentucky.
He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, attorney, banker, real estate developer and dedicated servant of his community. Most of all, he was a man of strong and abiding faith, a steadfast follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and His Roman Catholic Church. He was a lifelong parishioner at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church. He attended Xavier University (Class of 1965) and the University of Kentucky School of Law (Class of 1968). He was a member of the Board of Directors of Farmers Capital Bank Corporation; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kentucky Banking Centers; Trial Commissioner for Hart County District Court; Domestic Relations Commissioner and Master Commissioner for Hart Circuit Court; Munfordville City Attorney; and an attorney engaged in the general practice of law in Munfordville.
He had many interests including farming, gardening, and fishing. He loved talking with everyone he met and he had an extraordinary ability to learn everything about whomever he met, while keeping his information highly guarded. He was very passionate about Hart County. To him, there is no better place in the world to live.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stokes A. Baird, III, and Mabel Clark Baird; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Baird Cherry and Constance Belle "Connie" Linbeck; his brother-in-law, Leo "Lin" Linbeck; his sister-in-law, Ellen Buchart; nephew, Andrew Linbeck.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Scott Buchart Baird; his three children, Andrew Baird (Amy), Justin Baird (Erin), and Elizabeth Scott Baird Hamby (Adam); nine grandchildren, Catherine and Elizabeth Baird, Jeb, Jack, Bella, Bess, and Lucy Baird, Lillian Belle and Tate Hamby; his brothers-in-law, Michael P. Buchart (Alice), James Buchart (Diane), and Edward E. Buchart (Thom); and several nieces and nephews; and Angel Arce for his love and dedication to Mr. Stokes.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care given by Lee Ann Lawler and Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM CT on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Brooks Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM CT on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Baird Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hart County Scholarship Alliance and can be left at Brooks Funeral Home in memory of Stokes A. Baird IV.
