R. T. Knight

d. November 25, 2010

R.T. Knight, 62, of Elizabethtown, after a courageous four month battle with leukemia, passed away at his home on November 25, 2010, with his loving family at his side. Born in LaRue County on November 23, 1948, to J.C. and Wilma Knight, he also spent part of his youth living in both Green Co. and Hardin Co. Regarded by many as a quiet, patient, and humble man , his life exemplified one of character and integrity. He was quite noted for his beautiful smile and soft laughter. Earlier in his life, he became a Christian having accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He had been a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church for 30 years. There he enjoyed serving as an usher and greeter and felt a great love and fondness for his church family, especially for members of his Sunday School class. R.T. served two years in the Army. Later he began working at Gates Rubber Company in Elizabethtown where he retired after 32 years. At the time of his retirement, R.T. was an Area Manager in the Belt and Hose division. His retirement coincided with the 2003 closing of Elizabethtown division of the Belt and Hose Plant. He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Wilma Knight, two brothers, Coy and Robbie along with his father-in-law C.G. Milby all formerly of Hodgenville. Joined in Holy Matrimony on June 12, 1971, R.T. is survived by his loving wife Joan. He was the proud father of two children Trevor Stuart Knight (Gretchen) of Elizabethtown and Sarah Elizabeth Knight Brock (Todd) of Owensboro. His greatest delight was his six grandchildren who will always remember their doting, fun granddaddy: Stuart Lee Knight, John Wyatt Brock, Louis Whitman Brock, Eliza Grier Brock, William Thomas Brock, and Henry Dean Brock. Also surviving are three brothers Chester (Liz); Eddie (Ann); and Ray (Joyce) all of Elizabethtown. In addition, his dear mother-in-law Verta Milby of Hodgenville, two brothers-in law Dr. Mike Milby ( Darla) of Lexington and Hugh Milby (Fonda) of Glendale survive. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Both the visitation and funeral service will be held in the Worship Center at Severns Valley Baptist Church located at 1100 Ring Rd. and Hwy 1600 in Elizabethtown with visitation on Sunday, November 28 from 4:00- 8:00 pm ET. Funeral service, conducted by Senior Pastor Bill Langley and Pastor Ray Hicks, will be on Monday, November 29 at 11:00 am ET. Interment will be at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Contributions in R.T.'s memory may be made to Severns Valley Baptist Church Building Fund or Severns Valley Media Ministry.
