Opal Dixon

Opal Dixon, age 96, of Munfordville, KY, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Elizabethtown Nursing Rehab in Elizabethtown, KY. The Bonnieville native was born June 23, 1916 to the late L.G. and Dovie Brackett McDowell. She graduated from Munfordville High School and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College. She taught for many years at Walnut Grove, Veach and Bonnieville schools, later becoming principal at Bonnieville. She retired from Sears & Robuck Credit Services and was a member of Leitchfield Crossing Baptist Church. She is survived by one son: David Skaggs (Frances), Munfordville, KY; one brother: Odus McDowell (Frances), Elizabethtown, KY; two grandsons: Jason Skaggs, Munfordville, KY, Lynn Skaggs (Martha), Glasgow, KY; great granddaughter: Sarah Skaggs; one nephew: Gary McDowell (Macy), Munfordville, KY; one niece: Beverly (Larry) Dunn, Lexington, KY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marshall Dixon. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Brooks Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Bennignfield and Bro. Jeff Mayse officiating. Interment will be at Memory Park Cemetery, Bonnieville, KY.
