On Sunday, June 19, 2022, Joyce Dean Thompson got her wings and joined her Savior Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. She was 78 years old.
Joyce loved a lot of things. Her God given talent was to take care of the people she loved and not only the people, she loved caring for animals as well. Joyce held a lot of titles in her time, but the one she was most proud of was her years she spent at the Kentucky Down Under Park as an animal caretaker. Coming into her home on the weekends, you didn't know what animal she would bring home to care for. It might be a rabbit, bird or spend the weekend bottle feeding a baby kangaroo. Joyce always had a bird of her own, the most recent was Boomer. She had him so many years her family stopped counting after fifteen. Joyce also loved her dogs. Her dog Lacey was in her life for almost 16 years and she leaves behind her best buddy Little Bit. Joyce was born with not one but two green thumbs. Joyce's love for flowers was undeniable the moment you pulled into her driveway. She shared this love with both her twin sister Willis and daughter Tina. She loved growing gardens and spending laboring days with family members canning the fruits of her labor. Afterwards it would give her great joy to send friends and family home with her special corn and tomatoe juice.
Joyce also had a love for the game of bunco. Not so much for the game and prizes but the special time for her hang out with her best friends, have a meal, get rowdy and escape life one Saturday night a month. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Elsie Kidd who had lived in Linwood; one sister, Virgia K. Roberts (Ricky) who were also of the Linwood Community.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years Kenneth J. Thompson, Hardyville, KY;brother, Carrol Kidd (Annette), Linwood, KY; twin sister, Willis Hensley (Junior), Monroe, KY; brother Melvin Kidd (Donna), Elizabethtown, KY; five children, JR Thompson (Lora), Charleston, SC, Tina Thomas (Greg), Munfordville, KY, Timmy Thompson, Hardyville, KY, Chris Thompson, (Carol Ann), Rineyville, KY, Joey Thompson, Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren, Eric Thompson, Tiffany Thompson, Marcus Thompson, Chaz Thompson, Austin Thompson, John Lee Thompson, Eli Thompson; 11 great grandchildren.
