Former Hart County Sheriff, Jeffery Alan Staples, age 52, of Munfordville, KY, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at UK Hospital in Lexington, KY. The Ohio native was born on March 23, 1956. He was in law enforcement for 26 years serving with the Edmonton City Police, Horse Cave City Police and the remaining 13 years as the Hart County Sheriff where he was named Sheriff of the Year in 1998. Mr. Staples was also a DARE Teacher for several years and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Geraldine (Hudson) Staples and Jeff D. Staples, Jr. of Munfordville, KY.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his wife: Jenny (Chaney) Staples; Two Daughters: Jamie Staples-Bussell (Adam); and April Goble (Joe), all of Munfordville, KY; One Son: Jeremy Staples (Cricket), Cub Run, KY; Six Grand Children: Madison Underwood, Aliyah Goble, Miranda Fields, Lynnley Bentley, Trevor Chase Goble, & Allie Bussell.
He is also survived by his sister: Sandra Renick, Sevierville, TN; mother-in-law: Berniece Chaney, Legrande, KY; brother-in-law: Teddy Chaney (Pam), Legrande, KY; & special friend: Lucy Miller, Munfordville, KY.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law: Thomas Chaney.

Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, KY where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM CT, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 and from 8:00 AM to time of service, Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Funeral service will be at Brooks Funeral Home at 10:00 AM CT, Wednesday, December 24, 2008 with Bro. Dewayne Forbis officiating. Interment will be at Munfordville City Cemetery, Munfordville, KY.
