Gerald V. Dobson Sr., age 87, of Munfordville, KY, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012, at Hart County Health Care Center in Horse Cave, KY. While Mr. Dobson was attending UK during WWII he enlisted in US Army Reserve. He was called up and transferred to Colorado School of Mining and Engineering in Golden, CO. From there he received an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he stayed till the end of the war. After graduating, he returned to the family business then known as Sams Motor Co. in Munfordville. At his father's death in 1966 he changed the name of the business to Dobson Pontiac GMC and continued until 2005 when he retired. He was a member of Munfordville Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Sam Dobson and the late Daisy Close Dobson and brother of the late Vada Dobson Roland.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Owen Dobson; one son: Gerald V. "Jerry" Dobson II and wife Jane, Munfordville, KY; two grandsons: Gerald V. "Jarrett" Dobson III and wife Tabatha, Munfordville, KY, Samuel Patrick "Pat" Dobson, Munfordville, KY; three step great grandchildren and one nephew: William Vincent Roland and wife Carla of Spokane, WA.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Munfordville First United Methodist Church. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Munfordville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Richard A. Johnson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Munfordville First United Methodist Church Debt Retirement or Hart County Historical Society.
