Birdie Mabel (Wood) Gilbert

Birdie Mabel (Wood)Gilbert, age 94, of Munfordville, KY passed away at 11:43 AM CT Thursday, June 5, 2008, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow, KY. The Hart County native was born on April 22, 1914. She was a retired school teacher with the Hart County Board of Education and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Society and as a Sunday school teacher. She was the daughter of the late James Wood and the late Lula (Waggoner) Wood. She was married to the late Hal Gilbert. She is survived by a special niece: Tamara "Tammy" Woods of Bloomfield Hills, MI; sister-in-law: Frances Gilbert of Louisville, KY; three cousins: Mary Thompson, Carol Muncie and Wanda Bryant who she referred to as "Her Girls". She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, KY. The family will receive friends at Morning Star Baptist Church from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2008 and from 9:00 AM to time of service Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Funeral service will be at the church at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008 with Rev. Warner Fishback and Rev. Ray Stewart, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Morning Star Church Cemetery in Munfordville, KY.
